I stood for Council to give the communities of northern Porirua a stronger voice

Kia ora and welcome to my blog.

I believe local government should work with communities, not just for them. That means being visible, listening deeply, and backing the things that matter to people on the ground.

I’m working on Council to promote community voice, environmental protection and financial sustainability.

I’m committing my energy, experience, and community connections to make a difference on Council.

I’m advocating for fresh approaches including different engagement tools that build relationships and a sense of inclusion.

During the campaign we ran an online conversation on what’s important for city residents. Residents were able to frame the issues themselves and vote on others. The results are covered in the Blog below.

My focus is three key issues

Community voice

I led Council’s village planning programme and I know communities want to be involved in community-led solutions and are capable of great things. Council could do so much more by working with communities, and finding new ways of engaging with residents to get them involved.

Environmental protection

I door knocked in every suburb in my ward and know people are very concerned at the effect failing infrastructure is having on our environment. Greenfield development is creating urban sprawl in our city. This risks our areas of environmental significance and severs communities from public transport and social amenities.

Financial sustainability

Rates rises are hurting. Our Council provides crucial services and we need to make sure that money is spent wisely. We need to keep residents updated about budget issues and involved in budget decision making. We need to lobby government for fairer funding models. We need to ensure Council is efficient and accountable.
